eCam is a free design tool to produce 2D milling and turning machining projects for CNC lathes and machining centers. While producing similar results than those you can obtain with CAD or CAM systems, this compact utility will cost you nothing. It supports CAD profiles (DWG and DXF files) and comes with an extensive set of tools and features to produce highly accurate designs that you can view and edit as 2D or 3D high-quality graphics.
The drawing tools are simple and intuitive. You can add lines, arcs, circles, points, and standard shapes and polygons with just and few clicks, and use the snap, trim, and smart dimension tools to combine or fine-tune your sketches. From here you can go through the various steps required to complete the workflow using the panel on the left-hand side of the program’s interface. Steps follow a logical order within the entire process, just like in a standard wizard. Besides, each step is shown within the overall project as a link in a table of contents or a tasks list, allowing you to move from one another in an easy and intuitive way, while providing you an overview of the tasks already performed. You can also add “child operations” to the main machining just by checking then on the list proposed by eCam. Based on actual projects, the program will assign child operations (sub-tasks) to those processes in your project that are likely to need them, so that you can add them to your design in a quick and convenient way, and have them all listed in the above-mentioned panel. more
It is a program designed to help users program their CNC machines properly.
